The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

Bree Tanner Novella Cover

To be honest, the first question I asked myself when I learned that Stephanie Meyer would be releasing a new novella in the twlight universe called The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner the first question to pop into my head was, “Who the hell is Bree Tanner?” Aparently I’m not alone.

Check out this newly released featurette from Summit Entertainment, which introduces Bree Tanner to the world. (Note: Bree Tanner will make her movie debut in the Eclipse film, to be released on June 30th 2010.)

Some of you may be more up to speed than we are, but for those of you who are just as lost, here is the lowdown.

Bree Tanner is a character first seen in Eclipse, (introduced on page 569) and as the title suggests, has a brief existence as a vampire (is killed ten pages later). This book takes readers to the darker side of the newborn vampire world as Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella and the Cullens.

I haven’t started the The Short Life of Bree Tanner yet, but two days out and I am already hearing mixed reviews

The guardian.co.uk had this to say, “Any readers frustrated by the mundane suburban detail of Meyer’s previous Twilight books – vampires who play baseball, drive Volvos and give each other tasteful, thoughtful gifts – might be tempted to perk up. Sadly, it’s a folorn hope.”

However true fans, really seemed to enjoy the read. The Eyes of Amber Twilight fan blog found “there was so much more going on outside of her [Bella’s] sheltered existence and realizing that makes me thirst for more.”

Regardless, don’t take our word for it, check it out yourself. A dollar of every sale goes to the Red Cross, so you can feel good about your $10 purchase. With over a million copies in the first print run, I am sure you’ll be able to find one.
